En Passant

The most specific and unique move in chess is the move ‘en passant’, which is translated to ‘in passing’.

This can happen only to the pawn that did not move from its starting position. That’s what makes it a special pawn move in chess.

At this moment, we have a pawn at F2, and we have a pawn on H2. They did not move.

If white decides to move its pawn from F2. Two steps to F4, that will allow black to move its pawn diagonally and to capture a pawn from him.

The same will happen to the pawn on H2. If the pawn on H2 decides to go for two steps to H4 again the black pawn from G4 can move diagonally and remove the pawn from H4 like this.
